Grong Grong by Carbie Warbie @ Corner, Richmond (12th May 2013)

Following a support to the Dead Kennedys, Grong Grong impressed Jello Biafra so much that he offered them a deal with Alternative Tentacles. The self titled EP featured one studio side (recorded as part of winning a battle of the bands contest) and a live side recorded at the Seaview Ballroom in St-Kilda (Melbourne). Unfortunately, as luck would have it when the EP was released lead singer Michael was in a coma for a number of years following a drug overdose which put Grong Grong on hiatus. Amazingly he survived (although was forever paralyzed from the waist down) and years later went onto front HACK which featured members of members of Fear & Loathing. Guitarist Charles Tolnay went onto King Snake Roost, Lubricated Goat & Tumor Circus. Disbanded for 25 years, Grong Grong made a return to the stage in 2009 in support of a career retrospective, "To Hell’n’Back". Fast forward 30 odd years later and Grong Grong are supporting Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine at The Corner Hotel! Heathen Skulls is proud to present Seattle drone doom outfit Earth in their very first performances on our shores this September. Earth formed in 1990 and led by guitarist Dylan Carlson. Mostly instrumental, their early work grew out of the Seattle area grunge scene and is recognised as pioneering the genre of drone doom – an experimental offshoot of doom metal, characterised by droning, minimalist, lengthy and repetitive structures. Their early work could be seen as a variation of the experimental doom-influenced metal of The Melvins but they now feature a markedly different sound. Released earlier this year, ‘Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light II’ is a completely unanticipated direction for Earth. For more information about Earth: http://www.thronesanddominions.com

Psychic TV - Hurry On Sundown (Hawkwind cover) by Carbie Warbie @ Toff In Town, Melbourne (6th Mar 2012)

༺•☾✭ FILMED BY CARBIE WARBIE! ✭☽•༻ http://www.carbiewarbie.com Genesis Breyer P-Orridge is a true legend of the underground, an avant-garde anti-hero whose remarkable body of work reminds us that what is dangerous and what is important are never far apart and that, when you believe something, artistic integrity demands that you live by it too. Genesis Breyer P-Orridge has gone through many transformations. Born Neil Megson, he became Genesis P-Orridge when he founded the influential avant-garde band Throbbing Gristle in the mid-’70s, creating the genre of industrial music. Though the band broke up in 1981, its influence is still felt today in bands like LCD Soundsystem. P-Orridge went on to found Psychic TV with Throbbing Gristle’s Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson, but he didn’t find himself until he met Lady Jaye in 1993. The two married shortly thereafter, then began a simultaneous transformation they called “pandrogyne,” where they surgically altered their bodies to look like each other. In 2000 Genesis re-defined his art as a challenge to the limits of biology, beginning a series of surgeries in order to more closely resemble Lady Jaye, his other half and artistic partner for nearly 15 years. It was the ultimate act of devotion and a project he called 'Creating the Pandrogyne'; an attempt to deconstruct two individual identities through the creation of an indivisible third. An intimate, affecting portrait of this ground-breaking artist, "The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye" documents a truly new brand of romantic consciousness, one that conveys beauty, dignity and devotion from a perspective never before seen on film.

I don’t want no 9 to 5, telling me that I’m alive and ‘Man, you’re doing well!’ Have you got some money saved up for those rainy days? You should start some sort of trust fund just incase you fail My friends play in bands, they are better than everything on radio. Did you see that special on TV the other eve? ༺•☾✭ FILMED BY CARBIE WARBIE! ✭☽•༻ http://www.carbiewarbie.com Round and round up and down Through the streets of your town Everyday I make my way Through the streets of your town Don't the sun look good today? But the rain on its way Watch the butcher shine his knives And this town is full of battered wives. Round and round up and down Through the streets of your town Everyday I make my way Through the streets of your town I ride your river under the bridge I take your boat out to the reach 'Cause I love that engine roar But I still don't know what I'm here for Round and round up and down Through the streets of your town Everyday I make my way Through the streets of your town They shut it down They closed it down They shut it down They pulled it down Round and round up and down Through the streets of your town Everyday I make my way Through the streets of your town Written by Robert Forster & Grant McLennan "Streets Of Your Town" is a song by Australian indie group The Go-Betweens, a single from their 1988 album, 16 Lovers Lane. Featuring polished production, a prominent backing vocal by Amanda Brown and a guitar solo by bassist John Willsteed, "Streets of Your Town" is one of the band's most recognised songs and is arguably the closest the group had to a mainstream hit. It was released in July 1988 in the UK on Beggars Banquet, where it reached #80 on the singles charts and in Australia in August 1988 on Mushroom, where it reached #70. In New Zealand, the song was issued in November 1988, and was a top 40 hit, peaking at #30 - the band's highest-ever placing on any national chart. The single was re-released in the UK in 1989, in an attempt by Beggars Banquet to encourage the band's commercial momentum. However, it only peaked at No. 82. In 2017 the song was the theme for Reclink Community Cup and performed before the main bounce by Deborah Conway, Willy Zygier & She Said Zed.

The Ahern Brothers - Love Hurts (Everly Brothers cover) by Carbie Warbie @ Memo Music Hall (2nd Sept 2017)

༺•☾✭ FILMED BY CARBIE WARBIE! ✭☽•༻ http://www.carbiewarbie.com Both highly respected solo artists and songwriters in their own right, Steve Grady and Josh Rennie Hynes formed The Ahern Brothers after an impromptu trip to the USA in late 2016. They have just been announced to be performing at Port Fairy Folk Festival in 2018! After spending a few days in San Francisco, they packed the car and set off. For the next three weeks they travelled throughout Northern California and Oregon taking in national parks, small towns, cities and stories along the way, documenting the experience by writing an album’s worth of songs. “Steve and I hadn’t written anything together before, but as soon as we got to San Francisco we pulled out our guitars, and the songs just came pouring out,” Rennie-Hynes said. “We’d wake up, make a coffee and work on writing a song for that day. At the end of three weeks, we had a bunch of material that we were so proud of.” Their album and performances have drawn immediate comparisons to Simon & Garfunkel and The Everly Brothers in terms of storytelling and harmonies. The singing and performances are world class, but freedom and playfulness are what make The Ahern Brothers incredibly refreshing. Organic, cohesive, pure and spacious, these two incredibly talented young songwriters have joined their skills to create the best songs they possibly can. The Ahern Brothers have just toured Australia with Tex, Don & Charlie and have received great reviews for their performance.
